Thomas Sterns Eliot was born in 1888 in St.Louis, Missouri. He won the Nobel Prize for LIterature in 1948, He is wildely honored for his poetry, criticsm, essays, and plays. His work has influenced numerous poets, He is prehaps best known for "The Waste Land." He was known for his departure from techniques and subject matter of pre-World War I poetry. He helped reshape modern literature. He studied at Harvard, Sorbonne, and Oxford. His poems came to the attention of Ezra Pound, who helped him with his poetry.
